Hannes Coners

Welcome on my webpage.

For more than a century we have been exploring the theory of quantum mechanics. Former generations of scientists achieved enormous scientific breakthroughs and paved the path to new and exciting fields of research. Nowadays, quantum theory is the key element in most theoretical research. We developed powerful tools to analyze properties of materials or to investigate physics on smallest scales. In all of its applications, quantum theory exhibits, from my point of view, an intrinsic, appealing beauty. Still yet, we know that this theory has its limitations. We have not reached a satisfying solution to combine quantum theory with general relativity, for instance. The questions arise whether we can construct experimentally feasible tests to investigate these limitations and if and how they can be circumvented. Is it possible to catch a glimpse of an overall underlying theory?

Most prominent, quantum mechanics introduced the property of entanglement. Its quantity, central aspect in quantum information and quantum computation, is surrounded by questions regarding its understanding, quantification, control and further utilization. I expect to find answers to these questions in the field of quantum information theory. This is my motivation and the reason I want to devote my research to this topic. My aim is to contribute to the utilization of quantum mechanics and to make its advantages accessible to the public.
